From the gorgeous Bent Creek Golf course at the base of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the “big log” lodge Southern Cross rises above the links as a monument to contemporary “big log” vacation lodge architecture. Approaching Southern Cross from the driveway, you’ll be impressed by the forested seclusion. The first thing most visitors do when their car comes to a stop at the covered entrance deck is to rush out onto the massive rustic log main deck and stare in disbelief at the view of a lifetime. Just below is the Bent Creek Golf course, and straight across the course is the fabled Greenbriar Pinnacle and Mount LeConte, the dominant peak overlooking Gatlinburg Tennessee.

When you finally pull yourself away from the deck view, be prepared to be greeted by a gracious lodge that offers wonderfully spacious and tasteful accommodations to your entire group. Stepping through the main entrance way ( with covered deck ) you will be immediately captured again by the spectacular view – this time, from the huge dining table. The table, on the left, easily seats 10 and can seat 12. On the left, there is additional seating for 4 at the kitchen counter, and the breakfast nook table seats an additional 8 very comfortably.

There is only a half step up to the entrance from the driveway, and the kitchen is on your immediate right, for the ultimate in stocking convenience. The beautiful oak and granite kitchen is large and fully equipped with stainless steel Frigidaire appliances. The refrigerator has water and crushed ice dispensers, and the dishwasher is a large professional series appliance. Besides the stainless steel oven and microwave oven, there is a full complement of other appliances, including Cuisineart and Mr. Coffee coffee makers, Hamilton Beach toaster, and Black and Decker mixer.

Just past the kitchen on the right is the ornate breakfast nook, with table and 8 chairs in ornate iron and dark oak. With a view of the forest on the north side and a view of the Smokies to the south, the breakfast nook area also has the convenience of a half bath nearby.

On the far left ( the south side of this huge vacation lodge ) is a classic living area, with a 22 foot stone gas logs fireplace reaching to the cathedral ceiling, and a 37” Sharp Dolby Digital Flat Screen TV. Two overstuffed leather recliners sit nearest the fireplace, facing a large sectional distressed leather sofa, with every seat in the room featuring an incredible view of a lifetime, from the Greenbriar Pinnacle to the world famous Mount LeConte.

Just past the main living area on the main floor is the main floor king master suite, 15 feet by 15 feet. The classic oak and leather bed is matched by a 9 drawer chest and 2 end tables with lamps, but the feature you will appreciate for years to come is your private door to the main deck with its incredible view. You won’t really need to go through that door to enjoy the view, though, since the glass and beam wall of this master king suite shows off the view quite well. For entertainment, there’s the 26” Direct TV HDTV / DVD.

This main master bath has a large double sink vanity and stone tile multi-head massage shower, and a large whirlpool tub.

Up the wide rustic log staircase you will delight in a cozy loft, with cathedral ceiling and a fabulous view. The 2 rocking chairs, queen sleeper sofa and end table with lamp make for very fine additional accommodations.

The loft is flanked by another two king master suites. The cathedral east suite has an iron and oak bed with 2 matching end tables with lamps and an 11 drawer rustic oak dresser, with a 26” Direct TV HDTV / DVD. You will not believe the view from the east suite, looking out over the queen sleeper sofa. For storage of your belongings, there is a large walk-in closet. The bath features another double sink vanity, five head massage stone tiled shower, and a large whirlpool tub.

Another cathedral ceiled king master suite graces the west side of the top floor, which also includes a queen sleeper sofa in addition to the rustic oak and burnished brass and tree bark bed. This beautiful custom bedroom suite is completed by a matching 11 drawer chest and two end tables with lamps, as well as a floor standing lamp. The west suite also includes a walk-in closet, and a double vanity sink, five head massage stone tiled shower, and a large whirlpool tub.

Downstairs, the south west king master whirlpool suite offers a private door to the lower deck, as well as another 26” Direct TV HDTV / DVD. This oak and leather bed is matched by a 6 drawer chest and an end table with lamp, and provides an 8 foot closet for additional storage. The bath includes a five head massage stone tiled shower as well as the large whirlpool tub.

The downstairs north west king master suite has a huge crown and parapet dark oak and burnished brass bed with matching 5 drawer chest and end table with lamp. The bath is a large shower tub.

For the practical needs of a large group, the wash room downstairs is exceeded only by the kitchen in terms of importance. You will be happy to discover the Frigidaire commercial heavy duty washer and dryer, as well as ample space to sort and fold.

A half bath next door down the hallway is convenient for both those in the wash room and those in the billiards room across the hall.

The final bedroom, on the south east corner of the lower floor, has two ornate oak and leather queen beds with a matching 6 drawer chest, and a 26” Direct TV HDTV / DVD.
The distressed leather queen sleeper sofa offers additional accommodations. This bedroom also features a private door to the lower deck, which overlooks one of the most scenic golf courses in the country, as well as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

This south east bedroom has a very large bath, with double vanity sink, five head massage stone tiled shower, and a large whirlpool tub.

The centerpiece of the lower floor is the billiards room, with a large stone fireplace and 37” Direct TV HDTV / DVD. You will appreciate the pub table with 4 chairs when you are not taking a shot. Looking out through the glass and beam walls at the incredible view, you will be tempted to take one of the two glass doors from the billiards room out onto the deck to soak it in one more time. You will surely find that a gracious vacation lodge such as Southern Cross with this world class view is an unbeatable choice for a Smoky Mountain vacation.
